Two Cases of JN.1 Variant Reported in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Health Department of Odisha has reported the identification of two cases of the JN.1 variant of the COVID-19 virus in the state. Bijay Kumar Mohapatra, Director of Health Services, Odisha, shared insights into the two cases that have raised concerns.

The first individual, a Sundargarh resident with a recent travel history to Kerala, is presently under home treatment and shows no symptoms. Contacts related to this case are also reported to be asymptomatic, shared Mohapatra

The second case involves an 83-year-old man currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. While his condition is stable, health officials are closely monitoring his health, he added.

JN.1, a sub-variant of the Omicron lineage, is known for its increased transmissibility. Common symptoms include fever, cough, cold, headache, gastrointestinal issues, and respiratory challenges.

In response to these cases, health authorities have intensified surveillance efforts, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures to curb the potential spread of the JN.1 variant in Odisha. Ongoing genomic sequencing activities remain crucial for staying ahead of the evolving COVID-19 landscape.
