Tribal Art Exhibition Showcases Odisha’s Cultural Heritage in Dubai

Dubai: Celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Odisha’s tribal art, the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, under the Department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture, Government of Odisha, organized a unique exhibition in Dubai. Inspired by the vision of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the initiative aimed to provide a global platform for tribal artists to showcase their talent and depict the vibrant aesthetics of ethnic tribes.

Fifteen tribal artists from Odisha unveiled their paintings at the Hyatt Place Dubai Al Rigga, capturing the essence of Odisha’s tribal culture. His Excellency Satish Kumar Shivan, Consul General of India in Dubai, inaugurated the exhibition and lauded the efforts of the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi in promoting tribal art. Internationally acclaimed sand artist Padma Shri Dr. Sudarsan Pattnaik, President of the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, presided over the event.

The artworks showcased the rich cultural traditions of Odisha’s Sauras, Santhals, Kolhas, and Kandhas tribes, portraying elements of their festive ceremonies. Using acrylic colors on canvas, the tribal artists from Rayagada, Koraput, Mayurbhanja, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh districts of Odisha brought their unique perspectives to life.

Among the participating artists were Soubhagya Manjari Mallick, Dolly Jani, Binodini Behera, Suryalata Nayak, Subhadra Karoa, Sukumati Thiu, Bharati Tudu, Sujanamati Ekka, Indira Gamango, Anil Kerketta, Junesh Gamango, Jogi Sabaro, Samsan Gamango, Santosh Kumar Singh Khuntia, and Rajendra Singh Laguri. They were felicitated for their remarkable contributions to preserving and promoting tribal art.

Madhusudan Das, Special Secretary of the Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture, Government of Odisha, extended a warm welcome to the guests, while Panchanan Samal, Secretary of the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, coordinated the inaugural function. The exhibition attracted a diverse audience, including artists, art enthusiasts, and students from art schools in Dubai.
