Traffic Restrictions Imposed in Bhubaneswar for Rukuna Rath Yatra of Lord Lingaraj

Bhubaneswar: With the city gearing up for the revered Ashokastami Car Festival of Lord Lingaraj, the Commissionerate Police has implemented special traffic arrangements in Bhubaneswar to manage crowds and maintain public order during the festivities.

The annual festival will be held on April 5 and 6, with the return car festival (Bahuda Yatra) set to take place on April 9 and 10. Given the heavy footfall expected near the Lingaraj Temple and Rath Road, vehicular movement will be restricted in several parts of the city.

As per the new traffic plan, no vehicles will be allowed on Rath Road starting from Mausimaa Chowk. Instead, commuters will be diverted towards Museum Chowk or Vivekananda Marg, depending on the direction of travel. Additionally, key entry points into Rath Road will remain closed, including Barik Sahi Lane, Maharana Sahi Lane, Gosagareswar Chhak, Sital Sasthi Lane, Tinimundia Chhak, Harchandi Lane, Muna Medical Lane, and Punama Gate Lane.

Vehicles approaching from Rath Khala will be rerouted towards Bata Mahadev Temple to minimize congestion in the temple vicinity.

The Commissionerate Police has clarified that the restrictions are being enforced under Section 96 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003, which allows authorities to penalize violators with a fine ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. The offense is also compoundable, meaning it can be settled on the spot by designated officers.

Authorities have urged the public to adhere to diversion routes and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all attendees. Special signage and deployment of traffic officials will assist in managing the flow and avoiding confusion.
