Tom Boon’s Hat-Trick Powers Ranchi Royals into HIL 2026 Final

Bhubaneswar: Ranchi Royals booked their place in the final of the Men’s Hero Hockey India League (HIL) 2026 with a thrilling 3–2 victory over Hyderabad Toofans in Qualifier 2 at the iconic Kalinga Hockey Stadium here on Sunday. Belgian striker Tom Boon delivered a sensational hat-trick, scoring in the 13th, 15th and 34th minutes, to set up a title clash against Vedanta Kalinga Lancers on Monday.

Hyderabad Toofans made a dream start to the high-stakes encounter, taking the lead as early as the fifth minute through Jacob Anderson. The goal was brilliantly crafted by India’s rising midfield star Rajinder Singh, who weaved past three defenders from the right flank before setting up Anderson for a deft deflection in front of goal.

The early advantage, however, proved short-lived as the Toofans conceded two penalty corners in quick succession. Ranchi Royals capitalised in style, with Boon converting both chances through well-timed injections from the experienced Manpreet Singh. The back-to-back goals in the 13th and 15th minutes swung momentum firmly in favour of the Royals and brought an electrifying opening quarter to a close with the score at 2–1.

The second quarter saw intense end-to-end action but no change in the scoreline, as both sides created chances yet failed to find the net. After the break, Ranchi Royals returned with renewed intent and extended their lead in the 34th minute. Once again, it was Manpreet Singh’s precise injection and Boon’s powerful drag-flick from a penalty corner that proved decisive, giving the Royals a 3–1 cushion.

Hyderabad Toofans responded four minutes later through Junior World Cup bronze medallist Amandeep Lakra, who converted a well-worked penalty corner to keep his side in contention. The goal set up a tense final quarter, with the Toofans pressing hard for an equaliser and earning multiple penalty corners.

Despite sustained pressure, the Royals’ defence held firm in the closing stages, denying the Toofans a late comeback. Ranchi Royals eventually sealed a hard-fought 3–2 win, earning a spot in the HIL 2026 final, where they will face Vedanta Kalinga Lancers in what promises to be a blockbuster showdown.
