Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the brutal loot and gang-rape of a woman in a flat in the Maitree Vihar area of the city. The accused have been identified as Bikash Naik, Jaga Singh, and Tukuna Naik.
According to the police, Bikash Naik and Jaga Singh are habitual offenders with multiple cases pending against them at various police stations. Tukuna Naik, an auto driver, played a key role by helping Bikash and Jaga gain entry into the victim’s flat, facilitating the crime.
Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, in a press conference, revealed disturbing details of the incident. The accused had initially looted a mobile phone from the same flat on the night of September 28. Spotting the balcony door open, they planned a more sinister crime. The following night, they returned to the flat, looted three mobile phones and a pair of earrings from the victim, and then gang-raped her at knifepoint. The woman was threatened with the murder of her two-year-old child if she reported the crime.
The Commissioner added that the woman was alone in the flat at the time of the incident, with no male member present. The case has sent shockwaves through the city, and the police are taking swift action to ensure justice is served. Further investigations are underway.
