Tamil Nadu Dragons Edge Shrachi Bengal Tigers in Thrilling Hero Hockey India League Clash

Rourkela: The Tamil Nadu Dragons continued their dominant form with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Shrachi Bengal Tigers in an electrifying Hero Hockey India League encounter at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium on Friday. Goals from Karthi Selvam (16′) and Uttam Singh (37′) secured the Dragons’ win, extending their winning streak and propelling them to the top of the league standings.

The match began with a cagey first half, as both teams displayed solid defensive structures, limiting goal-scoring opportunities. The Tamil Nadu Dragons gradually found their rhythm, creating chances in the final minutes of the first quarter. However, Jamie Carr’s brilliant save from a penalty corner denied Blake Govers the opener.

The deadlock was broken seconds into the second quarter when Uttam Singh delivered a precise aerial pass across the goal, and Karthi Selvam capitalized, calmly tapping the ball into the net to register his second goal of the season.

The Bengal Tigers responded with attacking intent, with Jugraj Singh’s powerful drag flick hitting the crossbar and David Harte’s heroic saves keeping the Dragons’ lead intact. Sebastien Dockier had a late chance in the first half, but Harte once again came to the rescue with a decisive block.

The Tigers carried their attacking momentum into the second half, earning a penalty stroke in the 35th minute. Rupinder Pal Singh converted with precision, leveling the score at 1-1. However, the Dragons regained the lead two minutes later when Mortiz Ludwig’s perfectly timed pass found Uttam Singh, who slotted home his second goal to make it 2-1.

Despite their best efforts, the Bengal Tigers squandered multiple penalty corner opportunities and a second penalty stroke, as Rupinder’s uncharacteristic miss in the 44th minute proved costly. The Tigers continued to push for an equalizer, but the Dragons’ defense, led by goalkeeper David Harte, held firm.

A tense final quarter saw the Dragons reduced to 10 men after yellow cards to Mortiz Ludwig and Chandan Yadav. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Dragons displayed exceptional resilience to seal a well-deserved victory.
