South Africa’s Kwena Maphaka Clinches ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2024 Player of the Tournament

Benoni:  South Africa’s fast-bowling sensation, Kwena Maphaka, has emerged as the Player of the Tournament at the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024. The 17-year-old pace prodigy’s outstanding performances throughout the tournament secured him the coveted award, adding another feather to his cap.

Maphaka’s tournament campaign was nothing short of spectacular, finishing with an impressive tally of 21 wickets, just one shy of the record set by Bangladesh’s Enamul Haque Jr in 2014. His remarkable feat includes a personal record, as he became the first player in the history of the U19 World Cup to secure three five-wicket hauls in a single edition.

The South African speedster’s exceptional skill and consistency played a pivotal role in his team’s success, showcasing his ability to dismantle opposition batting line-ups with ease. Maphaka’s performances earned him the accolade, placing him in an elite category of players who have received the Player of the Tournament honor at the U19 World Cup.

The Player of the Tournament award has previously been claimed by notable cricketing talents, reflecting the platform’s significance in identifying future stars. In the previous edition, the honor went to another South African, Dewald Brevis, for his record-breaking run tally.
