Skill India Mission Boosts Employment Opportunities with Comprehensive Training Programs

New Delhi: Under the ambitious Skill India Mission (SIM), the Government of India is delivering extensive skill, re-skill, and up-skill training through a vast network of skill development centers and institutes. These efforts are facilitated under various schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and the Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The mission aims to equip Indian youth with industry-relevant skills, making them future-ready.

Steps to Align Training Programs with Market Needs

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has taken several steps to align training programs with market demands and improve the employability of trainees:

  1. Industry Collaboration: Training programs are developed in collaboration with industries, with 36 Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) led by industry leaders identifying sector-specific skill development needs and competency standards.
  2. Future-Ready Job Roles: PMKVY 4.0 prioritizes future-ready job roles in emerging sectors such as Drone Technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, and Mechatronics. New age courses have also been developed under CTS to meet the demand for futuristic job roles.
  3. Quality Assurance: The National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) has been established to regulate and ensure quality in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) space. NCVET-recognized awarding bodies develop qualifications based on industry demands and obtain industry validations.
  4. Industrial Environment Training: The Directorate General of Training (DGT) implements the Flexi MoU Scheme and Dual System of Training (DST) to provide ITI students with training in industrial environments. Courses aligned to the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) also include components of On Job Training (OJT) and employability skills.
  5. Corporate Partnerships: MoUs have been signed with tech companies like IBM, CISCO, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Microsoft to ensure industry linkages for institutes at the state and regional levels under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
  6. Market-Led Programs: NSDC supports training providers under market-led programs to align skill courses with industry demand.
  7. Apprenticeship Promotion: NAPS promotes apprenticeship training and increases engagement with industrial establishments for apprenticeship programs.
  8. International Agreements: The Government has signed Migration and Mobility Agreements with ten countries, including the U.K., France, Germany, Israel, Taiwan, and Australia, to align skilling with demand in these countries.
  9. Skill India International Centers: Thirty Skill India International Centers have been announced to cater to the demand for skilled workers in foreign countries.
  10. Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH): Launched in September 2023, SIDH is a mobile-first digital platform that synergizes skill development, education, employment, and entrepreneurship. It offers industry-relevant courses, apprenticeship, job opportunities, and entrepreneurship support. SIDH integrates with UIDAI, e-Shram, NCS, and Digilocker, providing a comprehensive and accessible platform for skill enhancement.

The number of training centers under MSDE schemes in the Pali district of Rajasthan is as follows:

SIDH, as a digital expansion of skilling opportunities, ensures inclusivity and convergence of skilling programs across central and state government ministries and departments. It empowers citizens to choose from multiple skilling programs aligned with their career goals and preferences.
