SJVN Limited Secures 1,352 MW Solar Power Projects in Maharashtra

New Delhi: SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna, Category-I and Schedule ‘A’ Central public sector enterprise, has clinched a significant milestone with Letters of Award for the development of Solar Power Projects totaling 1,352 MW in Maharashtra. The projects will be executed through SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN, spanning four districts: Nashik, Solapur, Ahmednagar, and Pune. This development comes under the Mukhya Mantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0, as stipulated by the Government of Maharashtra.

Geeta Kapur, Chairperson & Managing Director of SJVN, shared the news, highlighting the strategic significance of these solar projects. They align with the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0, which aims for 30% feeder solarization by 2025 through the implementation of 7,000 MW decentralized solar projects within a 5 km radius of agriculture-dominated sub-stations. The initiative seeks to provide daytime electricity supply to farmers.

SJVN received the Letters of Award during an event in Mumbai on March 7, 2024, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, Director (Finance) of SJVN, Akhileshwar Singh, and CEO of SGEL, Ajay Singh, among other officials from the state government, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd., and SGEL.

The total investment for these solar power projects, with a cumulative capacity of 1,352 MW, amounts to approximately Rs. 7,436 crores. This marks SGEL’s inaugural contribution to the PM-KUSUM Scheme, and the projects will be eligible for Central Financial Assistance, up to 30% of the total project cost.

SGEL secured these projects through a competitive bidding process conducted by MSEB Solar Agro Power Limited, Maharashtra, with the total tender capacity being 7,000 MW. SGEL actively participated, securing 1,500 MW – 500 MW in Round One and 1,000 MW in Round Two.

Looking forward, SJVN aims to pursue ambitious targets in line with the government’s commitment to having 50% of the total power capacity from non-fossil-fuel-based energy sources by 2030. The shared vision includes achieving 25,000 MW installed capacity by 2030 and 50,000 MW installed capacity by 2040, reflecting SJVN’s commitment to sustainable and renewable energy growth.
