
Shimla: SJVN Limited, a leading power sector Central Public Sector Unit, has entered into a significant Power Usage Agreement (PUA) with Jammu & Kashmir Power Corporation Limited (JKPCL) through its subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL). The agreement entails the supply of 300 MW Solar Power capacity to JKPCL from the upcoming 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project in Rajasthan.
Geeta Kapur, Chairperson & Managing Director of SJVN, shared insights into the development, highlighting that the Bikaner Solar Power Project is a venture undertaken by SJVN through SGEL under the CPSU Scheme of IREDA, with an estimated cost of Rs. 5,491 crores. The project, operating under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) mode, is anticipated to be operational by July 2024. The generated power will cater to the energy needs of government entities, either through direct consumption or distribution through discoms.
With a commitment to the government’s vision of generating 50% of energy from non-fossil-fuel-based resources by 2030, SJVN aims to achieve a capacity of 25,000 MW by 2030 and further escalate to 50,000 MW by 2040. The power sector giant is actively contributing to the national goal, emphasizing renewable energy sources for sustainable and environmentally conscious power generation.
