SJVN Limited Collaborates with IIT Patna to Enhance Tunnelling Projects

New Delhi: SJVN Limited, a leading hydropower company, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna) to leverage advanced geological models in tunnelling projects. The collaboration aims to streamline project execution processes, significantly reducing time and cost overruns.

One of the primary objectives of this partnership is the development of predictive analytics algorithms tailored specifically for tunnelling projects. These algorithms will utilize integrated geotechnical data to forecast potential risks and provide early warning systems, enabling proactive measures to mitigate delays and cost escalations.

Smt. Geeta Kapur, Chairperson & Managing Director of SJVN, emphasized that the MoU underscores the commitment to implementing cutting-edge methodologies that integrate diverse geotechnical data sources. These sources include geological surveys, borehole data, geophysical measurements, and monitoring data from SJVN projects.

Furthermore, the collaboration aims to enhance the evaluation and design of support systems crucial for tunnelling projects by evaluating the intricate relationship between overburden and deformation. Through the utilization of integrated geotechnical data and 3D geological models, SJVN and IIT Patna seek to identify and analyze potential risks and hazards proactively.

The MoU signing ceremony took place in New Delhi on April 2, 2024, in the presence of key dignitaries, including Director (Finance) of SJVN, Shri A.K Singh, and Director of IIT Patna, Shri T.N Singh. The event witnessed the participation of senior officials from both organizations, including CGM (Civil) Shri R.K Gupta, GM (Finance) Shri Jitender Yadav, GM (Civil) Shri Hemant Kumar Shaklya, GM (Geology) Shri Akshay Acharya from SJVN, and Professor A. K. Verma from IIT Patna.

This collaboration marks a significant step forward in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of tunnelling projects, ultimately contributing to the advancement of infrastructure development in the country.
