Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) Sets New Record with Highest-Ever Throughput

New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, has etched its name in history by reaching its highest-ever throughput of 6.43 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) during the fiscal year 2023-24. Surpassing the previous milestone of 6.05 million TEUs recorded in 2022-23, this accomplishment marks a significant milestone in the port’s journey of growth and development.

The port’s performance demonstrates an impressive upward trajectory, with a notable 6.27% increase in total throughput compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The total traffic handled at JNPA during the fiscal year from April 2023 to March 2024 stood at 85.82 million tonnes, representing a 2.33% increase from the 83.86 million tonnes handled during the same period in the previous financial year. This includes 78.13 million tonnes of container traffic and 7.70 million tonnes of Bulk Cargo, showcasing the port’s diverse capabilities and robust operational efficiency.

A breakdown of the container traffic reveals the significant contributions from various terminals, with 2.03 million TEUs handled at BMCT, 1.59 million TEUs at APMT, 1.13 million TEUs at NSICT, 1.11 million TEUs at NSIGT, 0.56 million TEUs at NSFT, and 7,978 TEUs at NSDT.

Mr. Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman of JNPA, expressed immense pride in this remarkable milestone, highlighting the port’s commitment to becoming a premier gateway for EXIM trade. He credited the achievement to the dedication and hard work of the entire team, as well as the implementation of various initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and facilitating ease of doing business. Initiatives such as the centralized parking plaza and single window clearance have contributed significantly to streamlining port operations and enhancing overall efficiency.
