SJVN Limited Boosts Green Energy Footprint with 100 MW Raghanesda Solar Power Station

Shimla: SJVN Limited, a prominent player in the energy sector, has successfully commissioned its 100 MW Raghanesda Solar Power Station in the Banaskatha district of Gujarat. This significant milestone underscores SJVN’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions, contributing to the nation’s green energy landscape.

The Raghanesda Solar Power Station is projected to generate an impressive 252 million units of energy in its inaugural year, with a cumulative energy generation estimated at 5,805 million units over 25 years. As part of a long-term Power Purchase Agreement inked in January 2022, the power generated by this solar facility will be supplied to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for an extended period of 25 years.

The completion of the Raghanesda project propels SJVN’s installed capacity to 2,377 MW. This accomplishment comes on the heels of SJVN’s recent commissioning of the 50 MW Gujrai Solar Power Station in Uttar Pradesh on February 23, 2024.

SJVN Green Energy Limited, the renewable arm of SJVN Limited, secured the 100 MW Raghanesda Solar Power Station at a competitive tariff of Rs. 2.64 per unit through Tariff Based Competitive Bidding conducted by GUVNL. The project, with a construction and development cost of Rs. 642 crores, marks SJVN’s eleventh power project.

Geeta Kapur, Chairperson & Managing Director of SJVN, expressed pride in the commissioning of the Raghanesda Solar Power Station. She highlighted SJVN’s commitment to bolstering the nation’s green energy sector and solidifying its position as a major player in the energy industry.

SJVN secured financing for the project from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation under the Global Action for Reconciling Economic Growth and Environmental Preservation (GREEN) program, emphasizing the company’s dedication to green initiatives and responsible growth. The Raghanesda Solar Power Station is expected to significantly contribute to Gujarat’s Renewable Energy Goals and enhance energy security in the region.

SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna-Category I and Schedule-‘A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise, commenced operations on May 24, 1988, as a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. As a listed entity, SJVN’s diversified portfolio includes Hydro, Thermal, Wind, Solar, Power trading, and Transmission. Looking forward, SJVN aims to achieve the Shared Vision of 25,000 MW installed capacity by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040.
