Single-dose vaccine of Johnson & Johnson gets approval for emergency use in India
To give a boost to the fight against Covid-19 pandemic, the Government of India allowed emergency use of Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine in the country today. The union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed about the news through a tweet on Saturday.
This is the fifth vaccine to be available in India after Covaxin, Covishield, Moderna and Sputnik V. Johnson & Johnson officials informed that that the new addition to India’s vaccine basket would be used to prevent spread of the disease in individuals who are 18 years of age and older.
“India expands its vaccine basket! Johnson & Johnson’s single dose COVID-19 vaccine is given approval for Emergency Use in India. Now India has 5 EUA vaccines. This will further boost our nation’s collective fight against #Covid-19,” tweeted Mandviya.
This vaccine is 66 percent effective in preventing Covid-19. It’s also highly effective against the rapidly spreading Delta variant of the virus. Biological E will produce the vaccine in India.
