Similipal Tiger Reserve Reopens for Tourists After Four-Month Hiatus

Baripada: The Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has reopened to the public after being closed for four months during the rainy season. The reserve, one of India’s largest and most biodiverse national parks, is now welcoming wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers to explore its rich ecosystem.

Similipal is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including Bengal tigers, elephants, leopards, and over 200 species of birds. It offers a unique opportunity for tourists to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of one of India’s premier wildlife sanctuaries.

Visitors entered the reserve through the Pithabata gate in Baripada and Kuliani gate in Jashipur, with a daily limit of 35 four-wheelers through Kuliani and 25 through Pithabata between 6 am and 9 am. Entry permits are available at the booking counters, and the entry fee is Rs 100 per tourist.

To preserve the pristine environment of the sanctuary, authorities have imposed strict restrictions on plastic, drugs, non-vegetarian food, and flammable materials. Overnight stays can be arranged by making advance bookings on the ecotourism website, offering tourists the chance to enjoy guest houses within the reserve.
