Sikkim Hosts Pioneering CME Program Integrating Sikkimese Herbal Wisdom with Homoeopathy

Gangtok: The Clinical Research Unit (Homoeopathy), under the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), organized a groundbreaking Continuing Medical Education (CME) program today in Gangtok. Held at The Fern Denzong Hotel, the event explored the fusion of Sikkim’s traditional herbal wisdom with homoeopathic principles. The CME was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including Sikkim’s Health Minister Shri G.T. Dhungel as the Chief Guest, along with Dr. Subhash Kaushik, Director General of CCRH. Also present were Dr. Pema Seden Lepcha, Principal Director of the National Ayush Mission, and Dr. Rajib Gogoi, Head of Office, Botanical Survey of India, Sikkim Himalayan Regional Centre.

The program featured the findings of an extensive folklore survey, focusing on Sikkim’s indigenous medicinal plants and their traditional uses. The aim was to identify complementary practices that could integrate homoeopathic and traditional medicine, promoting a holistic approach to healthcare. Attendees included experts, researchers, and practitioners who discussed potential synergies and highlighted the importance of evidence-based research to ensure safety and efficacy in ethnomedicine.

Health Minister G.T. Dhungel expressed strong support for this integration, acknowledging the role of traditional knowledge in public health. He also confirmed plans to consider proposals from CCRH regarding the establishment of a homoeopathic medical college in Sikkim and a center for the survey, cultivation, and preservation of medicinal plants used in homoeopathy.

Dr. Subhash Kaushik praised the Clinical Research Unit’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between homoeopathy and traditional practices to advance healthcare options. Additionally, Dr. Kaushik, along with key CCRH officers, met with Sikkim’s Governor, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, who applauded the CME’s objectives and expressed interest in facilitating further connections with local folklore healers.

This CME marks a vital step towards a comprehensive, patient-centered approach, blending traditional and modern medicine for enhanced healthcare in Sikkim and beyond.
