Significant MoU Signed to Advance Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy

Chennai: In a major step forward for Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) – Captain Srinivasa Murthy Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CSMCARI), under the Ministry of AYUSH, and the Commissionerate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy (CIM&H), Arumbakkam, Chennai.

The signing ceremony took place at the Kalaignar Centenary Multi-Speciality Hospital in Guindy, attended by Tamil Nadu’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, M.A. Subramanian, and Additional Chief Secretary, Gagan Deep Singh, IAS.

The MoU establishes a collaborative framework focused on testing services, training, and a joint project titled “Research Studies for the Standardization and Evaluation of Toxicity Studies for the Preparation of Selected Higher Order Medicines.” The primary goals include:

  1. Standardizing selected raw drugs and finished products.
  2. Providing NABL Accreditation Training to enhance the CIM&H laboratory.
  3. Conducting research on the toxicity of higher-order medicines, following CCRAS Research Policy guidelines.

Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General of CCRAS, emphasized that this partnership could serve as a model for other states to collaborate with CCRAS and the Ministry of AYUSH on various research initiatives.

Key anticipated outcomes of this MoU include:

  • Enhanced Quality and Safety: Rigorous testing and standardization will improve the quality and safety of Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medicines.
  • Specialized Training Programs: NABL Accreditation guidance will boost the CIM&H laboratory’s capabilities.
  • Collaborative Research Initiatives: Joint research will evaluate the toxicity of higher-order medicines, contributing valuable data to ensure their safety and efficacy.
  • Capacity Building and Knowledge Exchange: The partnership will foster innovation and excellence through ongoing collaboration in Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy.
