Shubman Gill Sidelined with Injury, Replaced by Sarfaraz Khan on Day 4 of Vizag Test

Vizag:  In the ongoing second Test between India and England in Vizag, opener Shubman Gill was replaced by substitute fielder Sarfaraz Khan on Day 4 due to an injury. Gill sustained an injury to his right index finger, as reported by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team. The injury prompted the Indian team to keep him away from fielding duties.

Gill, who made a strong comeback with a century on Day 3, didn’t take the field on Day 4, raising concerns about the extent of his injury. The BCCI medical team is expected to monitor his condition closely.

During the post-day press conference on Day 3, Gill expressed satisfaction with his performance, highlighting the importance of scoring runs at the number 3 batting position. He emphasized the need to play according to the situation and not succumb to external pressures, emphasizing his commitment to playing his natural game.

Gill’s injury comes after he scored a crucial century in the second innings, breaking a streak of poor scores in recent Test matches. The Indian team will be hopeful that the injury is not severe, considering Gill’s contribution to the team’s batting lineup.

In the match, Gill lost his wicket to England debutant Shoaib Bashir while attempting a reverse sweep shot in the 56th over of India’s second innings. The development adds an element of uncertainty to Gill’s further participation in the Test series against England.
