Bhubaneswar: More than 200 community kitchens serving flood-affected families in Ganjam district have received uninterrupted LPG supplies under the ‘Shaktigaon’ initiative, with over 1,000 cylinders mobilised in just four days through a joint effort by ORMAS, the Ganjam District Administration and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
The initiative has helped sustain cooking operations at community kitchens run by block administrations across 10 blocks and urban local bodies in the district. These kitchens are providing freshly cooked and hygienic meals to thousands of people affected by the floods.
With several families depending on relief kitchens for daily meals, ensuring a regular supply of cooking fuel became an important part of the ongoing relief operations. ORMAS has drawn on its network of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to assess LPG requirements at different locations and coordinate the distribution of cylinders according to local needs.
Indian Oil Corporation has supported the effort by mobilising and supplying the required cylinders, helping community kitchens continue their operations without interruption.
The coordinated initiative has brought together government agencies, the oil corporation and community networks to address a critical requirement during the disaster. By ensuring the availability of cooking fuel, ‘Shaktigaon’ has helped local volunteers and community groups maintain the supply of hot meals to flood-affected families.
The effort highlights the role of inter-agency coordination and community participation in sustaining essential relief services during emergencies.
