SAIL Partners with John Cockerill India Limited to Drive Innovation and Sustainability in Steelmaking

Mumbai: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), India’s largest public sector steel producer and a Maharatna company, has entered into a strategic partnership with John Cockerill India Limited (JCIL), a subsidiary of the global John Cockerill Group. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Mumbai by Anil Kumar Tulsiani, Director (Finance) at SAIL, and Michael Kotas, Managing Director of the Metals Division at JCIL.

This collaboration aims to leverage the technological expertise and industry experience of both companies to advance innovation and sustainability in steel production.

The partnership will concentrate on critical areas, including:

  • Cold Rolling and Processing for Carbon Steel
  • Development of Green Steel Technologies
  • Production of Silicon Steel, including Cold Rolled Grain Oriented (CRGO) and Cold Rolled Non-Oriented (CRNO) Steels

In addition to enhancing steel processing capabilities, the agreement focuses on integrating green technologies into iron and steelmaking processes. This includes exploring advanced methods to reduce carbon emissions and improve resource efficiency, aligning with global sustainability standards.

SAIL’s partnership with JCIL reflects its commitment to transforming traditional steelmaking practices. By adopting cutting-edge technologies, the company aims to meet the growing demands for environmentally sustainable solutions in the steel industry.

Speaking on the collaboration, SAIL emphasized its vision of contributing to a greener future while remaining at the forefront of innovation in steel production. The company views this partnership as a significant step toward aligning its operations with market demands and environmental priorities.

This MoU marks a pivotal moment for India’s steel sector, as two industry leaders join forces to drive advancements in efficiency and sustainability.
