Revamped Ropeway Service Relaunched at Nandankanan Zoological Park

Bhubaneswar: After a hiatus, the ropeway facility at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP), located on the outskirts of the Odisha capital, was officially reintroduced today, enhancing the visitor experience.

Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat inaugurated the ropeway in the presence of MLAs Suresh Kumar Routray, Susant Kumar Rout, and senior officials of the zoo.

The ropeway service is set to commence operations for visitors starting November 18 (Saturday), according to an official announcement. This aerial journey will transport visitors from NZP to the nearby Botanical Garden, offering picturesque views as it crosses the scenic Kanjia Lake.

In a collaborative effort with a Kolkata-based private company, the ropeway facility has been revamped with an investment of Rs 13 crore. The initial phase includes four cabins for visitors, with plans to incorporate eight more cabins in the future. Each cabin boasts a capacity to accommodate up to six visitors, providing a unique and enjoyable ride.

The reintroduction of the ropeway service at NZP marks a significant development, considering its initial launch in 1994. Back then, it quickly became a major tourist attraction at the zoo. However, due to an unfortunate incident in 2011, the facility was discontinued. Now, with enhanced safety measures and upgraded features, the ropeway aims to regain its status as a key highlight for visitors at Nandankanan Zoological Park.
