Renew Green Energy Group Proposes Major Green Energy Projects in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Renew Green Energy Group has expressed interest in developing large-scale green energy projects in Odisha, including green ammonia and green methanol plants, as well as green power generation. During a meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan on Wednesday, the Group’s delegation presented these ambitious proposals to Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.

Renew Energy Group aims to establish several key projects in Odisha to enhance the state’s renewable energy footprint. These projects include a green ammonia plant in Paradip and green methanol plants in Rayagada and Malkangiri. The company has set a target of producing one metric tonne of green hydrogen annually by 2030 through these initiatives.

In addition to these projects, the Group discussed the possibility of setting up a pumped storage project (PSP) in the state. The PSP would involve harnessing renewable energy sources, using pumps to store water that could later be utilized for power generation. This project is expected to bolster Odisha’s energy infrastructure while promoting sustainable development.

During the meeting, Minister Singh Deo acknowledged the transformative potential of these projects for the state’s economic growth and regional development. He assured Renew Group of the state government’s full support, emphasizing that the feasibility of the proposed projects would be carefully evaluated. The projects are expected to be implemented in phases based on the findings of feasibility studies.

“We will provide full support to ensure these projects contribute to Odisha’s growth, but we must first assess their viability and environmental impact,” said Singh Deo.

The meeting also included discussions on technical partnerships and project know-how. The delegation from Renew Green Energy Group, led by President Chintan Saha, sought government assistance in setting up the green energy infrastructure. The Odisha government’s senior officials, including Satyabrat Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, and Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary of the Department of Energy, were present to explore the opportunities and challenges associated with the proposed projects.

The establishment of these green energy projects is expected to play a crucial role in driving Odisha’s renewable energy sector, reducing its carbon footprint, and contributing to the national goal of increasing green hydrogen production. These efforts are anticipated to not only boost the state’s economic growth but also foster sustainable development in the regions surrounding the project sites.
