Bhubaneswar: Odisha is exploring Gujarat’s Dholera industrial model as it prepares to strengthen its semiconductor and electronics ecosystem, with Electronics and IT Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling visiting the industrial hub to study its infrastructure, urban planning and industry-support systems.
During the visit, Mahaling reviewed the integrated infrastructure and urban development initiatives at Dholera and inspected the activation area. He examined the modern planning framework and large-scale infrastructure created to support industrial activity and technology-driven growth.
The Minister also visited Tata Electronics’ semiconductor fabrication facility at Dholera and took stock of the ecosystem supporting semiconductor manufacturing.
During his visit to the facility, Mahaling observed that semiconductor manufacturing requires a comprehensive industrial ecosystem beyond the establishment of a fabrication unit.
He highlighted the importance of a reliable vendor and supply network, high-quality industrial infrastructure and a skilled workforce for developing a competitive semiconductor industry.
The Minister said the experience at Dholera would provide important inputs for Odisha’s efforts to develop a similar ecosystem suited to the state’s requirements.
“The visit has provided valuable experience and learnings for building the future semiconductor ecosystem in Odisha,” Mahaling said.
Mahaling said Odisha is working towards establishing itself as a major destination for semiconductor and technology industries by combining modern infrastructure with advanced technology and a strong industry ecosystem.
He said the state, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, is committed to creating the conditions required for the growth of the emerging technology sector.
The visit is expected to help Odisha identify infrastructure, urban planning, skill development and industry-linkage requirements that could support future investments in semiconductors and electronics.
Additional Chief Secretary, Electronics and IT Department Vishal Dev, OPTCL Chairman Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma, OCAC CEO Dr Pradeep Kumar Raut, Joint Secretary Kaustuva Pany and other senior officials accompanied the Minister.
