
Bhubaneswar: The work for the redevelopment of the Bhubaneswar Railway Station has commenced recently. A Camp office to look after the proposed work has been made operational in front of the station.
Bhubaneswar Railway Station is being redeveloped with World-Class infrastructure. East Coast Railway General Manager Roop Narayan Sunkar advised officials to make this project with passenger friendly amenities along with World Class infrastructure.
Sunkar also stressed upon detailed & precise planning and supervision of the execution of works with proper coordination.
Several facilities will be developed under the project. The primary focus is on the development of the new building, air concourse, renovation of platforms and platform shelters and circulating areas, platform lightings, food court zone, and shopping areas and waste management, waiting rooms, toilets among others.
There will be a well-designed service road, vehicle parking, drains, signage, and dividers. The new building will have high standard dormitories and retiring rooms apart from the beautified circulating area.
A multimodal hub was supposed to come up at Master Canteen which was to be jointly done by the Indian Railway and Odisha Government. Around 903 Crore was sanctioned for the ambitious project.
However, due to a lack of support from the Odisha Government, the Railways have decided to start the work on the railway portion.
Action is being taken to complete this work at the earliest. Ministry of Railways has sanctioned Rupees 308 Crores for this redevelopment. The project was assigned to Construction organization of ECoR.
Tendering process have already been completed and works awarded. The Construction period of the project is 24 months from starting of the work.
