Cuttack: A suspected cyberattack has disrupted online services at Ravenshaw University, with its official website reportedly redirecting mobile users to a betting platform named ‘Bento-4D’, instead of displaying university-related content.
The breach has raised alarms among students, many of whom have been unable to download important academic documents and certificates due to the redirection issue. The glitch appears to be limited to mobile devices, with desktop access facing intermittent issues as well.
So far, no official statement has been released by the university administration regarding the incident. However, internal sources suggest that technical teams are assessing the breach and working toward restoring the site.
This is not an isolated case. Cyberattacks targeting educational institutions in Odisha are becoming increasingly frequent. Recently, the Instagram account of the state’s Higher Education Department was also compromised, with inappropriate content uploaded. The account was later recovered, but the episode highlighted ongoing vulnerabilities in digital infrastructure.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the latest breach. In the meantime, students and staff have been urged to avoid accessing the site via mobile and report any suspicious activity to university officials.
The incident underscores the pressing need for enhanced cybersecurity protocols across academic platforms, as institutions grow more reliant on digital tools for daily operations.
