New Delhi: The Naval Commanders’ Conference for the year 2024 commenced on March 5, 2024, with a notable inaugural session featuring the presence of Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh. The three-day event began with a spectacular demonstration of ‘twin-carrier operations’ at sea, showcasing the Indian Navy’s growing capabilities in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests. The live demonstration highlighted the pivotal role of sea-based air power in maintaining maritime superiority.

Addressing the Naval Commanders during the session, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh praised the Indian Navy for enhancing its multi-dimensional capabilities in the Indian Ocean region and assuming a leadership role. He acknowledged the Navy’s efforts in promoting peace and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region, aligning with the vision of Security And Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Raksha Mantri commended the Indian Navy’s anti-piracy operations in the Indo-Pacific, earning global appreciation.

Highlighting the Navy’s contribution to maritime security and India’s sovereignty, Rajnath Singh emphasized its crucial role in fulfilling global commitments. He remarked, “If India’s reputation has increased in the Indian Ocean Region and wider Indo-Pacific, it is due to the bravery and promptness of our Navy. It has become synonymous with credibility in the Indo-Pacific region. The Navy is a reflection of India’s growing stature on the global canvas.”

The Raksha Mantri stressed the importance of jointness and synergy among the three Services in the face of evolving geopolitical dynamics. He addressed the rising significance of drones in modern warfare and maritime operations, urging the Commanders to remain prepared for various challenges. Rajnath Singh assured the Government’s unwavering support in this endeavor.

This edition of the Naval Commanders’ Conference adopts a hybrid format, providing a platform for Naval Commanders to deliberate on strategic, operational, and administrative matters related to maritime security. Against the backdrop of shifting geopolitical dynamics and regional challenges, the conference plays a crucial role in shaping the future trajectory of the Indian Navy.

The Chief of Defence Staff, along with the Chiefs of the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, will engage with Naval Commanders to explore avenues for enhancing tri-service synergy and readiness in defense of the nation. This collaborative effort aims to address the common national security environment and strengthen the unified defense capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces.
