Jaipur: In a thrilling encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Sunday, the Rajasthan Royals clinched victory against the Lucknow Super Giants by 20 runs in the fourth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
The Rajasthan Royals set a challenging target of 194, propelled by skipper Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 82 and a solid 43 from Riyan Parag. However, the Lucknow Super Giants faced an uphill battle during their chase, losing key wickets early on to the relentless bowling attack of the Royals.
Trent Boult emerged as a crucial figure for the Royals, striking twice in consecutive overs to dismiss Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal, who endured a disappointing debut innings. Boult’s precision and pace troubled the Super Giants, setting the tone for Rajasthan’s dominance.
Despite early setbacks, Deepak Hooda and skipper K.L. Rahul displayed resilience, forging a partnership to revive Lucknow’s innings. K.L. Rahul showcased his class, notching up a fifty from 35 balls. However, Rajasthan’s disciplined bowling, led by Sandeep Sharma’s brilliant 19th over, restricted Lucknow’s run flow and piled on the pressure.
Despite a valiant effort from Nicholas Pooran, Lucknow fell short of the target, succumbing to Rajasthan’s formidable bowling attack. Avesh Khan’s composed bowling in the final over sealed the victory for the Royals, leaving Lucknow with a disappointing defeat.
With this win under their belt, the Royals are set to take on the Delhi Capitals on March 28 in Jaipur, carrying the momentum of their opening victory.
