Rajasthan Royals Clinch Thrilling Last-Over Victory Against Punjab Kings

Mullanpur: In a nerve-wracking encounter at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Rajasthan Royals (RR) emerged victorious in a thrilling last-over showdown against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 27 of the TATA IPL 2024.

A disciplined bowling performance combined with a sensational finishing act by Shimron Hetmyer propelled Rajasthan Royals to victory, edging out Punjab Kings in a nail-biting encounter.

Opting to field after winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals displayed exceptional bowling prowess to restrict Punjab Kings to 147/8. A collective effort from RR bowlers ensured that PBKS struggled to build momentum throughout their innings.

Chasing 148 for victory, Rajasthan Royals got off to a steady start with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tanush Kotian laying a solid foundation. However, a breakthrough by Liam Livingstone saw the departure of Kotian, bringing captain Sanju Samson to the crease.

Despite losing key wickets at crucial junctures, RR’s chase received a major boost from a brilliant innings by Shimron Hetmyer, who played a stellar knock of 27*(10) and held his nerve in the final over to secure victory for his team.

Hetmyer’s heroics in the last over, where he smashed a couple of sixes off Arshdeep, sealed the win for Rajasthan Royals, who crossed the finish line with just two balls to spare.

Earlier, Punjab Kings faced batting woes as they struggled to build partnerships and were unable to accelerate the run rate. Despite a late surge led by Ashutosh Sharma’s explosive cameo of 31 runs off 16 balls, PBKS could only post a modest total of 147/8.

With this thrilling victory, Rajasthan Royals notched up their fifth win of the season, showcasing their resilience and determination in the fiercely competitive TATA IPL 2024.
