Railway Ministry Sanctions ₹288.61 Crore for Sambalpur Railway Flyover Project

Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to railway infrastructure, the Ministry of Railways has sanctioned ₹288.61 crore for the construction of a new Railway Flyover connecting Sambalpur Station to Sambalpur City Station. Spanning a distance of 8.10 kilometers, this significant project aims to streamline train operations and reduce congestion at these key junctions.

Key Project Highlights:

  • Improved Train Movements: The flyover will allow simultaneous train operations from all directions at Sambalpur, facilitating smooth train traffic and hassle-free movements towards Titilagarh, Angul, and Jharsuguda.
  • Operational Efficiency: By eliminating cross-traffic delays, the project will enhance the average speed and efficiency of trains in the region, ensuring timely operations.
  • Energy Corridor Scheme: As part of the Indian Railways’ Energy Corridor, the project underscores a commitment to sustainable and efficient infrastructure development.
  • Length and Cost: The flyover, with a sanctioned cost of ₹288.61 crore, will cover a length of 8.10 kilometers.

Benefits of the Flyover:

  • Enhanced Capacity: Dedicated infrastructure will be provided for trains traveling to and from Titilagarh, Jharsuguda, and Angul directions, bypassing the need for crossing other lines.
  • Congestion Relief: The flyover will significantly reduce train traffic detentions at Sambalpur and Sambalpur City Stations, as well as nearby stations, thus decreasing waiting periods.
  • Hassle-Free Passenger Movement: Passengers will benefit from smooth train operations in the Titilagarh, Jharsuguda, and Angul directions, enhancing their travel experience.

Project Impact:

Currently, cross-traffic from Jharsuguda, Titilagarh, and Angul directions causes delays and operational inefficiencies at Sambalpur Junction and Sambalpur City Stations. The new flyover will resolve these issues by enabling simultaneous train movements without surface crossings, thus preventing detentions and enhancing overall train operational capabilities in the region.

Indian Railways is committed to improving its infrastructure nationwide. The construction of this flyover at Sambalpur marks a crucial step towards reducing congestion and improving the efficiency of train operations. This initiative is set to significantly enhance the travel experience for passengers while boosting the operational capabilities of Indian Railways in the region.
