Rahul Gandhi Declares Assets Worth Over Rs 20 Crore in his nomination papers

New Delhi: Congress MP from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi, formally entered the electoral fray on Wednesday by filing his nomination papers for the upcoming general elections. In accordance with the election process, Gandhi disclosed his assets, revealing a total worth exceeding Rs 20 crore.

According to the affidavit filed from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi’s assets comprise movable assets valued at Rs 9.24 crore and immovable property estimated at around Rs 11.14 crore. Additionally, Gandhi declared liabilities amounting to Rs 49.79 lakh in his election affidavit.

Gandhi’s movable assets include Rs 55,000 in cash, Rs 26.25 lakh in bank deposits, Rs 4.33 crore in bonds and shares, Rs 3.81 crore in mutual funds, and gold bonds and jewellery valued at Rs 15.21 lakh.

On the immovable assets front, Rahul Gandhi possesses agricultural land in Delhi’s Mehrauli, co-owned with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and office space in Gurugram, collectively valued at Rs 11.15 crore. While the agricultural land is listed as inherited property, the office space is not.

In terms of investments, Rahul Gandhi has stock market holdings valued at Rs 4.33 crore, encompassing shares in prominent companies like Alkyl Amines Chemicals, Asian Paints, Bajaj Finance, and more. Additionally, he owns equity shares in Young Indian, the parent company of the National Herald newspaper, worth Rs 1.90 lakh.

Mutual funds form a significant part of Gandhi’s investment portfolio, amounting to Rs 3.81 crore. These include investments in various schemes like HDFC MCOP DP GR, HDFC Small Cap DP GR, and ICICI EQ&DF D Growth, among others.

Furthermore, Rahul Gandhi holds 220 units of sovereign gold bonds (SGBs) worth Rs 15.21 lakh and possesses 333.300 grams of gold and other jewellery valued at Rs 4.20 lakh.

In his affidavit, Gandhi also acknowledged the police cases against him, including one under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). He stated that as per the Delhi High Court’s directions, the details of the FIR are sealed, and he is unaware of being arraigned as an accused. Other cases mentioned include defamation complaints by BJP leaders and a criminal conspiracy case linked to Associated Journals Limited.

Rahul Gandhi, who won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 general elections, is set to contest in the high-profile contest scheduled for April 26. His opponents include CPI leader Annie Raja and state BJP chief K Surendran.
