Rafael Nadal beats Pedro Cachin to Reach Madrid Open Round of 16

Madrid: Tennis icon Rafael Nadal showcased his resilience and skill as he outlasted Argentina’s Pedro Cachin in a thrilling three-hour encounter to secure a spot in the round of 16 at the Madrid Open on Monday.

The former world No.1 delivered a dominant performance in the opening set, securing a comfortable 6-1 victory. However, the match took a dramatic turn as Cachin fought back fiercely in the second set, breaking Nadal’s serve twice and ultimately forcing a tiebreak. Despite the Argentine’s tenacity, Nadal remained composed, eventually clinching the set 6-7(5).

With the match stretched to its limit, Nadal displayed his trademark grit and determination, ultimately prevailing over Cachin with a hard-fought 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-3 victory.

This hard-earned triumph coincides with a significant milestone in Nadal’s illustrious career – the 22nd anniversary of his first Tour-level win at the 2002 Majorca Open, when he was just 15 years old. With this victory, Nadal notches up his 1,074th ATP win, solidifying his position as one of the most successful players in the Open Era.

The five-time Madrid Open champion will now turn his focus to the next challenge as he prepares to face Czechia’s Jiri Lehecka in the round of 16, aiming to secure a coveted spot in the quarterfinals. Tennis enthusiasts can expect another thrilling battle as Nadal continues his quest for glory at the Madrid Open.
