Puri to Come Under Comprehensive CCTV Surveillance

Bhubaneswar: The renowned pilgrim town of Puri is set to be equipped with comprehensive CCTV surveillance as part of a new security initiative. The district administration has proposed a special CCTV project to the state government, which is now awaiting approval.

The Puri CCTV Project proposal, submitted by Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain to the Works Department via the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC), aims to enhance safety and security throughout the town. The project will cover key areas, including the Shree Jagannath Temple and the iconic Grand Road (Bada Danda), with high-capacity surveillance cameras.

Collector Swain stated that approximately 620 CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic locations, including city entrances such as Samang, Malatipatapur, and Mansaghat. These cameras will be connected to a command and control room via an optical fibre network to ensure seamless monitoring and coordination.

“The project will be implemented shortly after receiving government approval, and it aims to make Puri a crime-free and safe city, improving both security and traffic management,” Swain said.

The district has already taken steps to bolster security by installing CCTV cameras on the inner and outer walls of the Jagannath Temple to monitor crowd movements. In addition, tenders have been invited to install cameras at all temple entrances, exit points, and the Nata Mandap, further ensuring the safety of pilgrims and visitors.
