Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wishes Speedy Recovery to Cricketer Mohammad Shami Following Successful Achilles Tendon Operation

New Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery and good health to Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami, who recently underwent a successful heel operation on his Achilles tendon. In a post on X, Shami shared the news of his surgery and the Prime Minister responded with words of encouragement.

Responding to Mohammad Shami’s X handle, Prime Minister Modi said, “Wishing you a speedy recovery and good health, @MdShami11! I’m confident you’ll overcome this injury with the courage that is so integral to you.”

Mohammad Shami, who has been out of competitive cricket since the World Cup in November, underwent the surgery in London on Monday. The operation specifically targeted his Achilles tendon, an issue that has been bothering him since the World Cup. Shami expressed that while the recovery process will take some time, he is looking forward to getting back on his feet and resuming his cricketing journey.

“Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon! 👟 Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet,” Shami shared on his X post along with a picture of himself.

Shami’s absence has been notable since the World Cup final in Ahmedabad on November 19. He has been missing from the full-fledged tour of South Africa, the home T20I series against Afghanistan, and the ongoing five-Test series against England. With the confirmation of his surgery, it is now clear that Shami will be unavailable for the entirety of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and his participation in the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup in June remains uncertain.

Before undergoing the operation, Shami sought expert opinion in London following the recommendation of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) management in Bengaluru. The cricket fraternity and fans are sending their best wishes to Shami for a swift and successful recovery, hoping to see him back in action on the cricket field soon
