President Murmu Highlights Diaspora’s Role in India’s Development at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Bhubaneswar: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, graced and addressed the valedictory session of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The event culminated with the presentation of the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards, honoring the outstanding contributions of the Indian diaspora worldwide.

Speaking on the occasion, President Murmu emphasized the significant role of the Indian diaspora in showcasing the essence of India’s values, skills, and ethos on the global stage. “The Indian Diaspora represents the best of our country. They carry with them not just knowledge and skills but also the values that have been the foundation of our civilization for millennia,” she said. Highlighting their impact in fields such as technology, medicine, arts, and entrepreneurship, she lauded their efforts in earning global respect and recognition for India.

The President extended her heartfelt congratulations to the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awardees, whose achievements serve as an inspiration to millions. Among them was Her Excellency Christine Kangaloo, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, whose leadership and focus on empowering women and the Indian diaspora earned her special commendation.

President Murmu highlighted the evolving significance of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, describing it as more than just an event. “It is a platform where ideas converge, collaborations are forged, and the bonds between India and its Diaspora are strengthened,” she remarked.

She underscored the importance of the diaspora in India’s journey towards becoming a “Viksit Bharat”—a developed nation by 2047. Stressing the need for proactive participation, she noted that the diaspora’s global presence and achievements uniquely position them to contribute to this vision.

Reflecting on India’s timeless philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), the President called for building an ecosystem that promotes global well-being. She emphasized balancing economic progress with social justice and environmental sustainability, envisioning a future where India leads on the global stage. “The Indian Diaspora would play an essential role in achieving this vision,” she affirmed.

In her concluding remarks, President Murmu called on the diaspora to work collectively towards a brighter future. “Together, we can build a Viksit Bharat, a nation that stands tall on the global stage and continues to be a beacon of light for the world,” she said, expressing optimism for the path ahead.

The valedictory session of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025 was a testament to the enduring ties between India and its global diaspora, reaffirming their pivotal role in shaping a prosperous and inclusive future for the nation.
