Odisha Shines at 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas with a Grand Showcase of Art and Heritage

Bhubaneswar: The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar witnessed a spectacular display of Odisha’s rich art, culture, and heritage, captivating attendees from across the globe. The Odisha Exhibition Hall emerged as a key attraction, offering a comprehensive glimpse into the state’s glorious traditions.

Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Haryana’s Tourism Minister, Kanwar Pal Gujjar, visited the exhibition hall and praised its meticulous representation of Odisha’s cultural essence. Pradhan lauded the initiative, saying, “The exhibition has beautifully captured Odisha’s cultural essence, winning the hearts of all. It is a commendable effort to highlight Odisha’s glorious heritage and promote it globally.”

The Odisha Exhibition Hall featured thematic displays that highlighted the state’s iconic Jagannath culture, the rituals of Manabasa Gurubar, the vibrant celebrations of Dol Purnima, and its timeless maritime traditions. These exhibits not only showcased Odisha’s cultural depth but also celebrated its enduring historical significance.

The hall brought to life various aspects of Odia culture, including classical and folk dances, traditional crafts, and festivals. Visitors were treated to vivid depictions of key historical events, from the transformative Kalinga War and the Paika Rebellion to Odisha’s journey toward statehood in 1936. Photographs of iconic events like Rath Yatra, Sunabesha, and the Konark Wheel further enriched the narrative.

A stunning array of artifacts was on display, including Pipili chandua, intricate Pattachitra paintings, vibrant Sambalpuri sarees, and traditional handlooms. Odisha’s tribal heritage, local crafts, and musical traditions were also celebrated, providing a well-rounded view of the state’s artistic brilliance.

The digital representation of ancient maritime trade journeys undertaken by the “Sadhabas” stood out as a highlight, drawing considerable attention from visitors.

Adding an interactive dimension, the exhibition included a digital quiz on Odisha’s history, festivals, and tourist destinations, engaging visitors, including members of the Indian diaspora. The Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture also presented a comprehensive digital encyclopedia on Odisha, offering an in-depth resource for Pravasi Bharatiyas and others keen to explore the state’s legacy.

The Odisha Exhibition Hall has firmly established itself as a centerpiece of this year’s Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. With its innovative displays and immersive experiences, it not only promoted Odisha’s vibrant traditions but also underscored the state’s growing global recognition. The initiative reflects Odisha’s commitment to preserving its heritage while fostering a deeper connection with the global community.

As the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations continue, the Odisha Exhibition Hall remains a beacon of cultural pride and a testament to the state’s rich and diverse heritage.
