
Cuttack: The President of India,Droupadi Murmu, attended the convocation ceremony of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack today and lauded the institution for its enduring contributions to education, freedom struggle, and women’s empowerment. Addressing students, faculty, and dignitaries, the President hailed the university as a historic cradle of knowledge and social transformation.
Highlighting the university’s illustrious legacy, President Murmu said, “Ravenshaw has played a pivotal role in India’s freedom movement and in the formation of the state of Odisha. Its alumni have enriched the nation as freedom fighters, educationists, writers, scientists, philosophers, and leaders. This institution has consistently worked to uplift women and promote inclusive education.”
She expressed appreciation for the university’s progressive initiatives in research, innovation, and social outreach. Mentioning its Centre of Design, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, she noted the university’s efforts to promote translational research and start-up culture, while also providing consultancy services and technology transfers to industry partners. President Murmu also acknowledged Ravenshaw’s focus on enrolling students from tribal areas, underprivileged sections, and divyangjan, calling it a model for inclusive growth.
Commenting on the rapid evolution of technology, the President said, “This is the era of science and technology. Developments in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, 3D Printing, and Cloud Computing are transforming our lives. I am pleased to see Ravenshaw University leveraging these tools, but I also urge students and educators to stay alert to the risks of misuse.”
Describing the current time as India’s “Amrit Kaal,” the President underlined the national goal of becoming a developed country by 2047. “Our soldiers, scientists, farmers, and engineers work with the spirit of nation first. I urge you, the students, to draw inspiration from them and contribute meaningfully with your knowledge, devotion, and skill,” she said.
Following the convocation, President Murmu laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of three buildings of Ravenshaw Girls’ High School in Cuttack. Speaking on the occasion, she emphasized the role of quality teaching and infrastructure in creating an enriching educational environment. She praised both the Central and State governments for prioritizing girls’ education through such initiatives.
Reflecting on her experience across various convocations, President Murmu said, “Wherever girls are given equal opportunities, they excel. Women are setting benchmarks in fields ranging from education and literature to science, commerce, and technology.” She urged the girl students to emulate these role models and believe in their ability to achieve even the impossible.
