President Murmu Commends IIT Bhilai’s Contributions to Innovation and Inclusive Development at Convocation Ceremony

Bhilai: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai, where she praised the institution and its graduates for their contributions to India’s technological progress and global impact. She highlighted IITians’ role in shaping the 21st-century world, leading top global companies, and fostering India’s start-up culture with their pioneering mindset and innovative spirit.

Addressing the graduates, President Murmu encouraged them to embrace risks in their professional journeys, stating, “No risk, no gain.” She urged them to channel their entrepreneurial energy and technical expertise toward creating new technologies and advancing societal well-being.

Highlighting Chhattisgarh’s rich tribal heritage, she emphasized the deep environmental knowledge inherent in tribal communities, noting, “The people of tribal society understand nature closely and have been living in harmony with the environment for centuries.” She expressed appreciation for IIT Bhilai’s commitment to uplifting tribal communities through technological advancements and knowledge-sharing, contributing to sustainable development.

The President applauded IIT Bhilai’s focus on agri-tech, health-tech, and fin-tech, along with its partnerships with local institutions like AIIMS Raipur and Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur. Initiatives such as mobile healthcare apps for rural areas and technology solutions for farmers are examples of the institute’s impactful contributions, empowering villagers with access to healthcare and enabling farmers to manage resources effectively. Additionally, the President acknowledged IIT Bhilai’s efforts in aiding the development of tribal economies, such as supporting communities involved in minor forest products like Mahua.

She was also pleased with IIT Bhilai’s commitment to inclusive education, noting the institute’s increased support for underprivileged and backward classes, as well as its strides in promoting female participation. She expressed confidence that IIT Bhilai, with its forward-thinking approach and commitment to social upliftment, will continue to make India proud.
