President Murmu Attends Patna Medical College Centenary Celebration, Emphasizes Decentralization of Healthcare

Patna: President of India, Droupadi Murmu, graced the centenary celebration of Patna Medical College (PMCH) in Patna, Bihar, today, highlighting its rich legacy and the need for Bihar to emerge as a hub for advanced medical treatment. Addressing the gathering, she lauded PMCH as an institution of immense historical significance that has consistently evolved with time while producing world-class medical professionals.

The President emphasized that PMCH has played a vital role in shaping Bihar’s medical landscape and was once regarded as one of Asia’s finest hospitals. She acknowledged the institution’s illustrious alumni, who have made remarkable contributions to the field of medicine, both in India and abroad, through their talent, service, and dedication.

Underlining the challenges posed by the need to travel to other states for specialized medical care, President Murmu stressed the importance of decentralizing medical institutions to ensure accessible and timely treatment. She noted that cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Indore have developed into major centers for specialty healthcare and urged Bihar to establish similar hubs. Strengthening healthcare infrastructure within the state, she said, would not only benefit the people of Bihar but also contribute to the state’s economic growth. She encouraged PMCH and its alumni to take the lead in this endeavor by leveraging their experience and expertise.

Highlighting the role of technology in modern medicine, the President spoke about the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in enhancing medical procedures, improving accuracy, and streamlining treatment. She urged PMCH to adopt the latest advancements in healthcare technology to enhance the efficiency of medical professionals and improve patient outcomes.

President Murmu also underscored the multifaceted role of doctors as researchers, therapists, teachers, and counselors, emphasizing their contributions to nation-building. She encouraged them to actively promote awareness about blood and organ donation, stressing its significance in saving lives and strengthening the healthcare system.

The centenary celebration of PMCH served as a momentous occasion to reflect on the institution’s remarkable journey and its continued commitment to excellence in medical education and healthcare services.
