President Murmu Addresses Convocation Ceremony at Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Memorial Health Science and Ayush University in Raipur

Raipur: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the convocation ceremony of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Memorial Health Science and Ayush University in Chhattisgarh today, October 26, 2024. During her address, she emphasized the importance of traditional medicinal knowledge and the role of healthcare professionals in the fight against communicable diseases.

Highlighting Chhattisgarh’s rich biodiversity, President Murmu noted that rural and tribal communities possess valuable knowledge about local herbs, such as Bija and Dhavda. She urged for the documentation and standardization of this traditional knowledge, suggesting that it could be leveraged for extensive scientific research and application.

The President pointed out the ongoing challenge of communicable diseases, including Malaria, Lymphatic Filariasis, and Tuberculosis, which remain a significant public health concern in the country. She commended healthcare workers as vital frontline warriors in raising awareness about health issues, serving as a bridge between policymakers and the public.

Addressing the graduating students, President Murmu encouraged future doctors to dedicate part of their professional lives to serving in rural areas, where they can better understand the health challenges faced by underserved populations. She expressed that their experiences in these communities would enrich their sense of duty toward society and enhance their professional skills.

The President underscored the respect accorded to teachers and doctors, suggesting that they could harness this respect to educate the public about pressing social issues, such as the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of organ and blood donation.

In her speech, President Murmu emphasized that convocation day represents not just a celebration of achievement but also a commitment to giving back to society. She urged the graduates to remember that their education was a collective investment by society, and it is their responsibility to contribute positively in return.

Looking toward the future, the President articulated her vision for a developed Chhattisgarh contributing to India’s growth by 2047. She stated that the health of citizens is crucial for overall development, as it directly impacts productivity and creativity. Thus, the role of health workers in building a prosperous state is of utmost importance.

Concluding her remarks, President Murmu reflected on her recent interactions with students in various engineering and medical institutions in Chhattisgarh, noting the vibrant energy and determination of the youth. She expressed confidence that this “new India” is poised to secure its rightful place on the global stage.
