President Droupadi Murmu Conferred Honorary Doctorate by University of Mauritius

New Delhi: The University of Mauritius bestowed the prestigious Honoris Causa Degree of Doctor of Civil Law upon the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in a ceremony held today.

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu acknowledged the pivotal role universities play in shaping the future of humanity, emphasizing that institutions like the University of Mauritius serve as more than just educational platforms—they are catalysts for the aspirations of the youth.

Expressing her gratitude for the honorary degree, President Murmu highlighted her belief that it would serve as an inspiration for young individuals, particularly women, encouraging them to explore their passions and pursue their dreams.

Reflecting on her personal journey, the President underscored the transformative impact of education, emphasizing its role in lifting individuals from vulnerability and deprivation to opportunities and hope.

President Murmu shared insights into India’s commitment to prioritize the education and empowerment of youth, positioning the nation for leadership in the future’s knowledge economy. She expressed confidence in India’s new National Education Policy, which aims to harness the demographic dividend to become an innovation powerhouse that benefits humanity.

In the spirit of collaboration, President Murmu expressed India’s eagerness to partner with special friends like Mauritius. She noted the significant educational exchange, with 400 Mauritians trained in India through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program annually and 60 Mauritian students receiving scholarships for higher education in India.

Highlighting the strategic relationship between India and Mauritius, the President described Mauritius as a close maritime neighbor, a valued partner in the Indian Ocean Region, and a key participant in India’s Africa outreach.

President Murmu celebrated the robust people-to-people linkages as the foundation of the special friendship between India and Mauritius, expressing confidence in the youth of both nations continuing to deepen this unique partnership. The ceremony marked not only a recognition of the President’s contributions but also symbolized the enduring bond between the two nations.
