
Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has appointed noted lyricist and communications expert Prasoon Joshi as the Chairman of Prasar Bharati, the country’s public service broadcaster.
A prominent creative professional, Joshi is widely recognised for his contributions across literature, advertising, cinema and public communication. Known for his evocative writing and strong cultural connect, his work spans acclaimed film lyrics, major advertising campaigns and socially relevant storytelling that resonates with diverse audiences.
Welcoming the appointment, Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Joshi’s creative vision and deep-rooted cultural sensibility would bring renewed energy and direction to Prasar Bharati. He expressed confidence that the organisation would benefit from a fresh and meaningful perspective under Joshi’s leadership.
Prior to this role, Joshi served as Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) since August 2017, where he was credited with maintaining a balanced approach between creative freedom and regulatory responsibilities. He has also held leadership positions as CEO of McCann World Group India and Chairman of McCann World Group Asia Pacific, besides serving as a trustee of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.
