Prasar Bharati to Telecast T20 World Cup, Paris Olympics

New Delhi: Prasar Bharati has announced that it will broadcast the T20 World Cup, set to take place in West Indies and USA from June 2nd onwards, on its DD Free Dish platform.

In addition to the T20 World Cup coverage, Doordarshan, under Prasar Bharati, will telecast a series of major global international sporting events. These include live, deferred live, and highlight coverage of the Paris Olympics Games 2024 (July 26th – August 11th), Paris Paralympic Games (August 28th – September 8th), and International Cricket Series between India Vs Zimbabwe (July 6th – 11th) and India Vs Sri Lanka (July 27th – August 7th). Furthermore, viewers can also catch the Ladies and Men’s finals of the French Open 2024 (June 8th & 9th) and Wimbledon 2024 (July 13th & 14th) on DD Free Dish.

The announcement was made by CEO of Prasar Bharati, Gaurav Dwivedi, during a media interaction held in New Delhi today. The event was attended by Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sanjay Jaju, along with Chairman of Prasar Bharati, Navneet Kumar Sehgal, CEO Gaurav Dwivedi, and DG of Doordarshan, Ms Kanchan Prasad. The occasion also saw the launch of a special anthem ‘Jazba’ for the T20 World Cup, sung by Sukhwinder Singh, and a promotional video narrated by renowned storyteller Neelesh Misra.

Prasar Bharati emphasized its commitment to expanding its sports coverage, with agreements already in place with leading global sports bodies like NBA and PGTA for showcasing their content on DD Sports. NBA’s popular e-sports property NBA 2K League matches are already being telecast on DD Sports Channel.

Gaurav Dwivedi highlighted the elaborate arrangements made by both Doordarshan and All India Radio for the vote counting process scheduled for Tuesday, underscoring the public broadcaster’s dedication to delivering comprehensive coverage of significant events.
