
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) which provides free foodgrain to the poor will be extended till Diwali in November.
“Till November, 80 crore poor will get free foodgrains. The initiative is to ensure that no one sleeps hungry ”. said PM Modi.
Under the scheme, 5 kg free rice or wheat are provided to each member of the family, along with 1 kg pulses per month.
The PMGKAY scheme was introduced in 2020 during the first wave of the Covid Pandemic. In 2021, it was resumed for two months, May and June.
