New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a significant meeting on Monday to unveil the ‘Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana,’ a transformative initiative with the ambitious goal of installing rooftop solar power panels on one crore households across the country.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence on Lok Kalyan Marg, followed his visit to Ayodhya on the auspicious occasion of the Pran Pratishtha of the Ram Temple, as per a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
In his address during the meeting, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the potential of harnessing solar power from every household with a roof. He highlighted the dual benefits of reducing electricity bills and fostering true self-reliance (Aatmanirbhar) for their electricity needs.
The ‘Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana’ is designed to provide electricity to low and middle-income individuals through solar rooftop installations. Additionally, it seeks to empower households by offering an opportunity for additional income through surplus electricity generation.
During the meeting, PM Modi issued directives for the initiation of a massive national campaign. The campaign aims to mobilize residential consumers, encouraging them to adopt rooftop solar on a large scale. This strategic move aligns with the broader vision of promoting clean energy, reducing dependency on traditional power sources, and fostering a culture of sustainability among citizens.
