PM Modi Conferred Dominica’s Highest National Award at India-CARICOM Summit

Georgetown, Guyana: On November 20, 2024, Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, conferred the prestigious Dominica Award of Honour on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recognition of his exceptional statesmanship, steadfast support to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic, and his unwavering commitment to strengthening the ties between India and Dominica. The award ceremony was held on the sidelines of the Second India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown, Guyana, and was attended by several regional leaders, including the Prime Minister of Dominica, H.E. Roosevelt Skerrit, and other CARICOM heads of state and government.

In a moment of great significance, the ceremony was also graced by the President of Guyana, H.E. Dr. Irfaan Ali, and the Prime Ministers of Barbados, H.E. Mia Amor Mottley, Grenada, H.E. Dickon Mitchell, Saint Lucia, H.E. Philip J. Pierre, and Antigua and Barbuda, H.E. Gaston Browne, who all witnessed the historic occasion.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the honour, dedicating the prestigious award to the people of India and emphasizing the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between India and Dominica. He reaffirmed his confidence that the bilateral relationship between India and Dominica would continue to grow and deepen in the years to come.

The award comes as a recognition of Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in fostering strong relationships between India and the Caribbean, with special emphasis on the support extended to Dominica during the global pandemic. India’s assistance to Dominica during the challenging times of COVID-19 highlighted the spirit of solidarity and cooperation between the two nations.

Prime Minister Modi’s remarks at the ceremony highlighted the importance of continued cooperation and mutual support in achieving sustainable development and prosperity for both nations. This honour, bestowed by the government of Dominica, further underscores the warm diplomatic ties between India and the Caribbean region, reinforcing the shared commitment to peace, development, and regional stability.
