
Bhubaneswar: The opening day of the 24th National Para Athletics Championship 2026 witnessed an impressive performance by Odisha’s para-athletes at the Kalinga Stadium, with the host state securing two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
Among the standout performers, Jayanti Behera clinched the gold medal in the Women’s 100m T47 event, clocking an impressive 13.17 seconds. In another remarkable achievement, Janaki Oram secured gold in the Women’s 100m T12 category with a timing of 13.81 seconds, marking one of the key highlights of the day.
In field events, Ranjit Chanda earned a bronze medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw F46 event with a throw of 55.55 metres, while Satyanarayan Jena also delivered a strong performance, finishing among the top competitors with a throw of 51.49 metres.
Adding to the medal tally, Kamalakanta Nayak secured a bronze medal in the Men’s 100m T53 event, completing the race in 20.81 seconds. Meanwhile, Kabita Prabahue bagged a silver medal in the Women’s 100m T13 event, clocking 16.05 seconds.
Officials said Odisha’s strong showing on the opening day reflects the athletes’ rigorous training and determination, setting a confident tone for the remainder of the championship.
