Pavan Davuluri, an alumnus of IIT Madras, has been named as the new head of Microsoft Windows and Surface, succeeding Panos Panay who departed last year to join Amazon.
Davuluri’s appointment comes following the restructuring of Microsoft’s leadership, which saw the division of the Windows and Surface groups and the subsequent need for separate leadership for each. Initially overseeing Surface Silicon work, Davuluri has now been tasked with leading both the Windows and Surface teams after the departure of Mikhail Parakhin.
Having graduated from the prestigious IIT Madras, Davuluri brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise in the technology sector. His appointment further underscores the increasing presence of Indian leaders in prominent positions within tech companies in the United States, alongside figures like Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella.
Rajesh Jha, Microsoft’s head of experience and devices, highlighted the organizational changes in an internal letter, stating, “Pavan Davuluri will lead this team and continue to report to me.” He emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows client and cloud in the current AI era.
Davuluri boasts an impressive tenure of over 23 years with Microsoft, having joined the company as the Reliability Component Manager after completing his Masters in Science from the University of Maryland.
With his extensive experience and leadership acumen, Davuluri is poised to steer Microsoft’s Windows and Surface divisions towards continued innovation and success in the ever-evolving tech landscape.
