New Delhi: India witnessed a surge in Omicron cases as the tally reached 653 with Maharashtra ad Delhi recording highest number of cases.
As the cases are rising alarmingly, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday issued a yellow alert in Delhi and some restrictions to be imposed under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
“We have stayed above 0.5 per cent positivity rate for more than two days. We are enforcing Level-I (Yellow alert) of the Graded Response Action Plan. A detailed order on restrictions to be implemented will be released soon,” Kejriwal said.
Yellow alert is issued when the city sees a positivity rate of 0,5% for two consecutive days. Delhi witnessed a positivity rate of 0.55% on Sunday and 0.68 on Monday.
A high level review meeting was held regarding the rising cases in Delhi, after which CM Kejriwal said that though the cases are rising, there is no need to panic as most cases have mild symptoms.
With the Yellow alert issued there would be night curfew, closure of schools and colleges, non-essential shops would be opened on odd-even basis, halved seating capacity in Metro trains and buses, restrictions on number of people in wedding and funerals.
The Delhi government has already banned zero night celebrations on the occasion of the New Year and has imposed night curfew from December 27.
The highest number of Omicron cases are reported from Maharashtra (167), while Delhi has reported 165 cases, Kerala (57),Telangana (55), Gujarat (49) and Rajasthan (46).
