Bhubaneswar: Odisha has earned global recognition for its traditional cuisine as the Tourism Department, Government of Odisha set a Guinness World Record by preparing 1,174 kilograms of Pakhala in a single vessel, marking a historic moment for the state.
The achievement celebrates the enduring legacy of Pakhala, a fermented rice dish that has long been an integral part of Odisha’s food culture, particularly during the summer months. Known for its cooling and probiotic properties, the dish reflects both tradition and sustainability.
Officials said the record attempt was designed to bring wider attention to Odisha’s indigenous food practices and elevate them to the global stage. The recognition is expected to boost interest in the state’s culinary heritage and promote it among national and international audiences.
Closely associated with Pakhala Paraba, the dish has grown beyond regional boundaries, becoming a cultural symbol celebrated by Odias worldwide.
