Odisha Youth Share COP29 Insights, Lead Climate Action Dialogue

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to amplify the voices of young climate advocates, Youth4Water Plus, with support from UNICEF Odisha, hosted a dissemination meeting today at the Press Club in Bhubaneswar. The event was aimed at sharing insights from the recently concluded COP29 in Baku, showcasing Odisha’s youth as leaders in climate resilience and sustainable development.

William Hanlon Jr., Chief of UNICEF Odisha, opened the meeting by highlighting the transformative role of youth in global climate conversations. “Young people are at the forefront of creating impactful change. Platforms like COP29 allow them to bring local solutions to the global stage, inspiring collective action. UNICEF Odisha is proud to back initiatives like Youth4Water Plus, which empowers the next generation of climate innovators,” he stated.

Four young representatives from Youth4Water Plus—Stalin Nayak, Indumati Nanda, Punyasloka Panda, and Pritish Nayak—captivated the audience with stories from their COP29 journey. They detailed their experiences and ongoing projects aimed at addressing climate challenges and driving sustainable development.

The event also emphasized the role of youth in advancing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) efforts. Shipra Saxena, WASH-CCES Specialist at UNICEF Odisha, applauded the initiative’s impact, saying, “Youth4Water Plus stands as a testament to the power of young leaders in driving sustainable solutions and advocating for communities in need.”

The meeting concluded with a focus on expanding youth participation in global platforms and fostering collaborations that align local solutions with international goals. The stories of these young leaders underscored Odisha’s growing influence in climate resilience and its commitment to empowering the next generation to secure a sustainable future.
